Friends of Oakdene
Dear Parents, Grandparents and Guardians,
On behalf of the “Friends of Oakdene” can we welcome you and wish you and your child a very happy future here.
The “Friends of Oakdene Primary” is a Parents and Teachers Association that was reformed approximately 20 years ago. The first project of our Association was to raise £15,000 to enable the Computer Suite to be built. This was a very special project, as we wanted the Suite to be built in the memory of one of the pupils, Andrew Schenck, who tragically died of Leukaemia. With the help of donations and hard work from everyone concerned, the money was raised and the Suite opened in time for Andrew’s class to use before they left.
“Friends” have in the past funded our outdoor play area and all the computers around the school. In recent years we have raised funds for a seating area and a tyre park for the children to use whilst playing, and all the fencing around school to keep the children safe. We also successfully received funding for stage equipment, curtains, a digital camera, computer equipment and assisting with the construction of the Library and Learning Zone. Our latest big purchase was a set of iPads, complete with charging trolley and cases. For the past 8 years we have paid all the transport costs for class trips which brings the price you pay for trips down by a considerable amount.
Without the “Friends of Oakdene” these projects would not have been completed. We constantly need support from Parents and always need new members.
If you can spare any time to attend our meetings and functions you are very welcome. We meet every 4-6 weeks depending on forthcoming events.
In the last few years we have held Quiz Nights, Race Nights, Family Bingos, BBQs, Discos, Christmas & Summer Fayres and most recently, children's Film Nights.
Please support our Association and become involved in your child’s School life!
Thank you
