Chinese New Year, by Mrs Heskett

Date: 26th Jan 2017 @ 3:55pm

Today we were lucky enough to celebrate Chinese New Year.

This year is the Year of the Rooster.

We came to school wearing red, gold and black.

Mr and Mrs Chong came in to tell us how their family celebrate.

they had been very busy cooking.

They had made spring rolls, rice, prawn crackers and sweets.

We were all lucky red money envelopes and were given mandarins that are a symbol of good fortune.

Harvey, Lucas and Kioni showed us their lion puppets and they also performed a lion dance.

At the end of the afternoon Reception performed their own dragon dance, cheered on by Year 1 and 2.

Ahoy Me Hearties!! what a fantastic Pirate Day we had at Oakdene.

The theme for the day was mapping and all the children had the opportunity to look at and use maps.

Here are a few pirate snaps of the day ...
